Medical tourism packages can bundle consultation, procedure, hotel, transportation, translation, and recovery support. Bundles can be convenient, but they can also hide who is responsible for each part of care.
This guide is a research starting point, not a provider recommendation.
Start With Identity
Ask:
- Who is the surgeon, dentist, doctor, or clinician?
- What is their license number or verification path?
- What facility will be used?
- Who owns or operates the package?
- Is a facilitator, clinic, hospital, or hotel collecting payment?
- Who is legally responsible if something goes wrong?
Separate Medical Care From Travel
Ask what is included in:
- medical consultation;
- procedure fees;
- anesthesia;
- facility fees;
- lab or imaging fees;
- medications;
- recovery lodging;
- transportation;
- translation;
- follow-up appointments;
- complication care.
Do not rely on the package price unless exclusions are written down.
Safety And Accreditation Questions
Ask:
- Is the facility licensed?
- Is it accredited or externally reviewed?
- Is the exact location covered?
- Who provides anesthesia?
- What infection-control standards are followed?
- What emergency hospital is used?
- What happens if surgery must be canceled or delayed?
Records And Follow-Up Questions
Ask:
- Will records be provided in English?
- Will operative notes, implant details, imaging, and prescriptions be included?
- Who follows up after returning home?
- Does the provider communicate with the patient’s home doctor?
- What symptoms require urgent care?
Payment And Insurance Questions
Ask:
- Is the deposit refundable?
- What happens if medical clearance changes?
- Are complications included or billed separately?
- Does insurance cover planned treatment abroad?
- Is medical evacuation coverage needed?
- Are financing or affiliate relationships disclosed?
