Use this guide to organize research about a specific Tijuana facility and treating professional. A convenient route or advertised package does not establish clinical suitability. Recovery Tourism does not recommend a provider or decide whether you should travel for treatment.
Start with the procedure and exact facility
Our current Tijuana directory batch contains two bariatric research listings and one orthopedic research listing. These are source-reviewed public facts, not independently verified clinician credentials. They do not establish coverage of every specialty or identify the best provider.
Use the directory search and comparison tools to review their source trails. For care-specific questions, start with the bariatric guide or orthopedic surgery guide.
Separate the credential checks
| What to check | Information to obtain |
|---|---|
| Treating professional | Full name, professional cédula, relevant specialty credentials, and the role they will perform |
| Actual treatment facility | Legal name, street address, relevant operating authorization, and the service covered by that authorization |
| Optional accreditation | Exact entity, location, accreditor, program, service scope, and current term |
| Package or facilitator | Who supplies care, who handles transport/lodging, who receives payment, and who deals with changes or complications |
The SEP professional credential portal is a professional-record check. Ask Baja California COEPRIS or COFEPRIS about the applicable facility requirements. A listing, a travel facilitator, and a hotel credential do not replace these separate checks. See our credential verification guide.
Plan the route without promising a crossing time
If your itinerary involves a land crossing, check the actual port, lane eligibility, required documents, and current operating information. CBP Border Wait Times is a current-information resource for entering the United States; do not treat a displayed wait as a guaranteed appointment or transfer time.
Canada’s Mexico advisory warns about crime and violence in border areas. Review its current safety, entry, and health guidance before choosing a route. For U.S. travelers, check the current Mexico travel information. A city guide is not individual travel clearance.
Make recovery and return-home arrangements explicit
Ask the treating team for a written plan covering follow-up, records, whom to contact, and what happens if you cannot return as planned. The CDC describes medical-tourism complications and stresses continuity of care; your clinician must decide your travel timing. CDC medical tourism guidance.
Compare lodging using the recovery planning checklist. Ask about stairs, transport to follow-up visits, assistance actually provided, and emergency arrangements. Keep lodging, a nonclinical companion, and licensed nursing care separate. This page offers no recovery booking or companion roster.
Ask for an itemized written quote
Identify what is included, excluded, refundable, and payable if the plan changes. Ask about clinician/facility charges, tests, devices, transport, lodging, follow-up, and additional care. Recovery Tourism has not verified prices or availability for these listings.
Sources and research links checked October 6, 2026. Credential checks for individual clinicians and facilities remain separate work.
